Hyung-Kwan Kim, MD, PhD, Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea

 

Prof. Hyung-Kwan Kim is currently a cardiologist and professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. He holds the positions of Director of the Cardiac Diagnostic Test Unit at Seoul National University Hospital and Head of the Division of General Clinical Trials, Clinical Trial Center, Seoul National University Hospital. Prof. Kim earned his medical degree and PhD from Seoul National University. On March 1, 2008, he began his career as a clinical assistant professor at Seoul National University Hospital. His early research primarily focused on tricuspid regurgitation, resulting in many publications in prestigious journals such as Circulation, the European Heart Journal, and HEART. Following a two-year visiting research scholarship at Duke University Medical Center (2014-2016), his research interests expanded to include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, publishing approximately 35 papers in SCI journals. Throughout his career, he published over 220 papers in SCI journals, as of July 2024. In recognition of his contributions, he received several awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the Korean Society of Cardiology (2005), the 39th Yuhan Grand Award in Medicine (2006), and the Excellence in Research Award from the Korean Society of Cardiology (2019). He has also been honored with multiple awards from Seoul National University, Seoul National University Hospital, and the Korean Society of Echocardiography for his academic achievements. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (2009-2012) and is currently an associate editor for the Korean Circulation Journal. Prof. Kim is widely recognized for his expertise in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and valvular heart disease. He is now a leading member of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Research Network within the Korean Society of Echocardiography. .
